“Big surprise, muscles are not only to look good, boast of our strength and appear healthy. Regular strength exercises and a healthy diet could make all the difference to muscular health.”
As we age, starting as early as our 30s, more noticeably after 60, a natural decline in muscle mass and strength, known as sarcopenia, occurs. This impacts daily activities and increases the risk of falls and injuries.
Some delicious ideas to build healthy muscles naturally:
Meals
Eat enough high-protein foods such as lean meats, eggs, cottage cheese, salmon, hemp seeds, eggs, beans and lentils.
Snacks
Include nuts, protein bars, roasted chickpeas, pumpkin seeds, and low-sodium dried meat (jerky, biltong). Canned fish, oats with berries and wholegrain crackers with cheese are all good for muscle health.
Drinks
Drink protein shakes containing whey, casein, or plant-based liquids. Consider drinks with creatine or Greek yogurt smoothies.
